Dreamy Couples Photo Session at the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm in Maui, Hawai'i

When B and A contacted me about the vision for their honeymoon photography portrait session, I was over-the-top excited 😍 Not only is the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm one of my favorite places on the island, but I’ve also been dreaming about photographing a client session at this location for quite some time. The charming farm, located in the Upcountry region of Maui at 4,000ft elevation, serves as a favorite place to visit, relax, and enjoy the blooms, views, and a variety of lavender products and foods for locals and visitors alike. It is also a wedding venue, as well as a backdrop for photography sessions (when arranged by a professional photographer). B doesn’t prefer the beach, AND A’s favorite bloom is lavender— so what could possibly be more fitting as an ideal location for their session???

B and A became engaged during 2020, and wedding planning was challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They scheduled their wedding date for July 2021 not knowing if there would still be restrictions in place or not. Luckily, by the time that they got married in Northern California, most of the restrictions had been lifted. This sweet couple had the whirlwind wedding of their dreams followed by their immediate departure for their honeymoon on Maui.

I met B and A at a location close to the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm and I had them follow me to ensure that the GPS didn’t take them off track. I used to live quite close to this spot in UpCountry Maui, and visiting always takes me back to my first couple of years living on the island. Although I love where I live now on the North Shore of Maui, I miss the views of UpCountry!

We got started with B and A’s couples photography session with a stroll through the grounds of the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm. There are tons of nooks and crannies to explore with many stunning photo ops.

B and A were most interested in capturing images of them frolicking through the lavender fields. The Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm has some types of lavender that grow year-round; however, the peak of the season is mid-summer. B and A timed their session perfectly to capture the most variety of lavender in bloom!

B and A wanted to ensure that they captured a wide variety of images for their couples portrait session, so they booked multiple hours to allow for a second location. We ended the evening on Maui’s North Shore, where we were lucky to capture a rainbow and some beautiful, soft light at sunset.

Congratulations on your marriage, B and A! I wish you the very best in this next chapter of your life together. It was an honor to be your Maui couples photographer!

Kind words from the couple:

Kathryn did a honeymoon session for us in 2 different locations on the same day in July 2021. She was awesome to work with from first contact to photo delivery. She is very friendly and professional, and she made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. When I injured myself at the beach location, she was very kind and accommodating. But even more importantly, her art is amazing. Her command of light, posing, and composition are fantastic. We are so excited to finally have some beautiful photography to proudly display in our home. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone who lives in or is traveling to Maui.
