Fun Wedding at the Maui Hyatt Regency Resort

If you have your heart set on a Maui destination wedding, but you still want to get married in a church, I’m here to tell you that you can have both! I recently had the opportunity to photograph Rachelle and Kenneth’s wedding ceremony at the stunning Maria Lanakila Catholic Church in Lahaina. This is one of my favorite churches for weddings on Maui! The church was built in 1928, and it’s part of a National Historic Landmark District. With the bright light filtering in through the expansive windows, gorgeous arches, beautiful artwork and statues, this church is quite remarkable. The priest was also personable and delivered an engaging traditional mass.

After the ceremony, the wedding party and guests headed to the Maui Hyatt Regency Spa & Resort for the cocktail hour and reception. Rachelle and Kenneth had quite a large bridal party consisting of 30 people total, which is the largest bridal party that I’ve photographed yet! With such a large group, it can be a little difficult to capture super creative images, but I was up for the challenge! To get some fun images, I had the bridal party form a tunnel that the bride and groom walked through with their friends cheering on the side. These turned out to be some of my favorites from the entire day.

The Hyatt Regency is a gorgeous resort that offers several gardens and areas to capture photos of the bride and groom. Rachelle and Kenneth were great sports about walking all over the resort grounds for their couples portraits. We captured photos at the swinging bridge, the swan garden, a staircase featuring a beautiful stone mural, and near the beach walkway. We even managed to capture a rainbow in the background of a few images! The cocktail hour was set-up on one of the lawns at the Hyatt Regency, and the guests had a great time enjoying drinks, dancing, and relaxing with stunning ocean views.

Rachelle and Kenneth prioritized photos of their ceremony, family formal portraits, photos with their bridal party, couples portraits, and images of their guests enjoying the cocktail hour. Because I offer custom Maui wedding packages, I was able to work with them to put together a wedding photography package that captured the things that were most important to them.

Kind words from the couple:

We live in California and had a destination wedding to Maui. Even though we weren’t able to see each other until the day of our wedding, Katy made everything for our photos run smoothly! I appreciate that she was able to FaceTime me and also answer any questions I had before the big day!

Ho'omaika'i 'ana (Congratulations), Rachelle and Kenneth! It was a pleasure to be your Maui wedding photographer! I hope to see you back again on Maui again soon!
